About

I am a tinkerer and entrepreneur at heart.  I have over 10 years of professional experience in software development, with a specialty in large-scale collection, analysis and visualization of behavioral data for interactive media.

Academically, I have a wealth of experience in the quantitative an qualitative analysis of user behavior and user enjoyment of games and other interactive media.  I have both published articles and book chapters on the subject, and I have presented at International conferences about interactive media, including a sponsored session at the Game Developer’s Conference in 2005.

Since graduate school, I have spent about 5 years designing and building software solutions for the analysis of large-scale behavioral data.  While at Emergent Game Technologies, I led the design and development of a suite of metrics and analytics tools for game developers.  I later founded a company with Varun Nayak called Socialesque (www.socialesque.com), which specializes in large-scale next-gen analytics for social media.

I love video games, have been studying and enjoying them for years as a young man, then in graduate school, then in the gaming industry, and finally in the realm of digital marketing. I could wax poetic about how player movement in a 3D space can reveal much about how they’re enjoying the game itself, how much they’re learning, or even how likely they are to return to the game.  Lately, I have been thinking more and more about how this type of navigational behavior can be coupled with social analytics in order to craft better social experiences in large-scale virtual worlds.

In the past year or so, I have been applying my interest in user engagement in the world of Digital Marketing.  As the Interactive Director at Band Digital, Inc., I have had the good fortune of working with a talented bunch of creatives, developers, account execs, and strategist for household names like Harley-Davidson, Quaker, Redbox, and Meijer.  My role  at Band is largely that of lead architect on the H-D1 Bike Builder project for Harley, as well as oversight and management of the Chicago Development team.

I am always looking for a challenge.  Hit me up if you have a particularly good one :)

And thanks for visiting my website!

Sincerely,
Sean
